In 2002, the River Otter  was released by the Pennsylvania Game Commission in the Raystown Branch watershed and at Raystown Lake. In a plan to release 40 otters over two years, over 25 otters were released upstream in the Raystown Branch and seven at the Lake.

Otter Stocking at Raystown Lake, PennsylvaniaOver 100 people came to the Aitch Recreation Area to observe the release of three river otters conducted by Frostburg State University and the Pennsylvania Game Commission. All observers, especially the children, were excited to witness a rare sighting of an otter. Please keep your eye out for otters.

The Corps will continue to provide assistance to the program which enhances the ecological system by returning one of its native predators and provides a unique opportunity for our visitors to observe this valuable mammal.
