Recent gypsy moth infestations have dramatically affected the pre 1980 forest composition and aesthetic values of Raystown Lake. In effect, these infestations have dramatically impacted the forest resources. Supporting evidence of this destruction is presented within plot information collected from 1990 to the present.

Gypsy moth egg mass surveys are performed according to US Forest Service standards. Permanent starting points and plot centers have been established in the field so as to enhance the accuracy of counts from year to year. Yearly surveys are performed in late August with results justifying pesticide spraying for the following year.
