Vacancies for permanent positions at Raystown are rare. When they do occur, those vacancies can be found at the Army’s Civilian Personnel On-Line and generally at the Office of Personnel Management’s website. An applicant can apply for an open position on either of these sites. Please make sure that you follow the directions for application on each website. Additionally, for national consideration an informal listing of positions open or becoming available has been developed on the Natural Resource Management website. You may also leave your resume on this site for review by other Corps of Engineer Managers. However, During the peak summer visitation and work season, the Corps at Raystown advertises for - and hires - approximately 20 to 25 additional seasonal personnel. Six to seven of these positions are on the maintenance staff, and fourteen to fifteen positions are available on the ranger staff. The maintenance staff’s seasonal positions are generally laborer positions, rated at WG-03 are for a six-month duration – generally beginning in early April and terminating at the end of September. The work involves supporting journeymen maintenance mechanics in building maintenance and repair, grounds maintenance, and fieldwork. The majority of work is performed in an out of doors setting. The ranger staff’s seasonal positions are generally listed as Park Rangers and run from the middle of May to the end of September. The jobs are generally filled at the GS-03 or GS-04 levels depending on staffing needs and the qualifications of the applicant. The primary role of the Park Ranger is to support the Visitor Assistance function. However, there are often summer projects and adequate time to be involved in Interpretive Services or Resource Management functions. These jobs are perfect for college students or recent graduates looking to hone their skills while working in an exciting summer job. Preferred applicants will be in the fields of Parks and Recreation, Law Enforcement, Biology and related fields (forestry, wildlife and fisheries management). Work hours will generally include weekends and perhaps some shift work.
