Lake staff members take an active role in Explorer Post 26, serving
as adult leaders and career mentors. Explorer Post 26 is part of the
Boy Scouts of America, but is open to all boys and girls between the
ages of 14-20. "Teaching the members leadership and planning skills
prepares them for professional life to come."

What is an Explorer Post?
The purpose of Explorer Post 26 is to introduce students to careers in the outdoors before they have to make a curriculum or career decision.
What do they do?
Since the fall of 1995, Explorer Post 26 has routinely gone camping, caving, rapelling, rock climbing, hiking, biking, water skiing, tubing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, and many other outdoor activities.
Each year the group plans a "superactivity", a trip that takes the Post's members to a destination outside the local area, usually outside the state. The youth members plan all the parts of the trip; from transportation, to meals, to finances, to daily activities. The students are responsible for the planning, so they are also responsible for the fun.
Who Can Join?
Boys & Girls between the ages of 14-20.
Adults participate in the group as Advisors, helping the student members
plan and execute activities. The adults are not the leaders; that is
left to the student-members.
Adult advisors must be at least 21 years old to participate.
Are there any fees?
Membership in Explorer Post 26 costs only $10 per year . This fee pays
for insurance, discounts, and other Explorer Post activities. Membership
renewal occurs in October, so those joining at other times will have
discounted membership fees.
Money used to pay for Explorer Post activities comes from fundraisers like a firewood raffle and
carwashes.
