Terrace Mountain Trail (TMT) traverses the entire eastern side of Raystown Lake, providing an opportunity for challenging day and overnight hikes through remote and sometimes rugged terrain.  Wildlife and Scenic views abound for those wishing to follow a path less traveled.

Trailhead Locations: This trail has seven access points, from south to north;

  • Weaver Falls Bridge (mile 0.0).  From eastbound Rt. 913 at Rt. 26, continue approximately 3 miles through the town of Saxton, PA.  Just past the bridge, turn left onto Weaver Falls Rd. (marked by small green sign).  Continue 0.3 miles and turn right at the stop sign towards Weaver Falls.  Continue .07 miles.  The trailhead will be on the right just before crossing the bridge.  Vehicles may park parallel to the mountain.

  • Lake Raystown Resort (mile 5.4).  This trailhead is accessible seasonally only to those staying at Lake Raystown Resort.  From eastbound Rt. 994 at Rt. 26 continue 4 miles.  Turn right into Lake Raystown Resort.  Check-in at the office for directions to access the trailhead.

  • Terrace Mountain Trail SignageTatman Run (mile 7.5).  This trailhead is accessible seasonally.  From eastbound Rt. 994 at Rt. 26 continue east 4 miles.  Just past the Lake Raystown Resort, turn left into Tatman Run (marked by sign).  The trailhead will be at the top of the hill (marked by sign).  A small parking lot is provided.

  • Trough Creek State Park  (mile 11.9).  From eastbound Rt. 994 at Rt. 26 continue 5.2 miles.  Turn left onto Hill Farm Rd. towards Trough Creek State Park (marked by sign).  Continue 1.5 miles and turn left at the T-intersection towards the State Park “ice mine”.  Vehicles may park at the ice mine parking area, the trail continues just past the ice mine (marked by sign).

  • Gate 27 (mile 17.5).  From eastbound Rt. 994 at Rt. 26 continue 5.2 miles.  Turn left onto Hill Farm Road towards Trough Creek State Park (marked by sign).  Continue 1.5 miles and turn right at the T-intersection towards the “Youth Forestry Camp”.  Turn left on Terrace Mountain Rd. and continue for approximately 6 miles.  Gate 27 will be on the left at the top of the hill.  Vehicles may park along the road, the trail crosses the gated road about 1/3 of the way down the mountain (marked by sign).

  • Gate 1 / Hawn’s Rd. (mile 21.5).  From southbound Rt. 829 at Rt. 22 near Mill Creek, PA continue south 5.2 miles.  Turn right at the “Busted Knuckle Garage” sign onto Corbin’s Road.  Continue 0.5 mile and turn left over the bridge onto Hawn’s Bridge Road.  Continue 1.8 miles to Gate 1.  Vehicles may park in the turn-around, the trail intersects the gated road approximately half way down the mountain.

  • Point Access (mile 29).  From Rt. 22 eastbound at Huntingdon.  Just east of the Giant Food Store turn right onto Point Road.  Continue on Point Road (staying left) approximately 2.2 miles.  The Point Access area (managed by PA Fish & Boat Commission) will be on the left.  Vehicles may park in the Point Access, the trail begins  0.2 miles further down Point Road at the Corbin’s Road bridge.

Terrain: sloping, moderate to rigorous inclines

Maps are available from the Visitor Center, Park Rangers, or by clicking the brochure above. Maps include information on trail features and a scavenger hunt for the kids!

Trail Guides:  A host of cultural history can be found along the TMT in addition to geologic and natural features.  Trail Guides providing mile-by-mile highlights and other trail information are only available by clicking and printing the brochures below.  These guides divide the TMT into four leisurely day-hikes ranging from 5 to 10 miles each.
